We get this question from our guests all the time before they arrive " What can we see during our stay on the ranch?". The answer is always the possibilities are endless. Due to our location, we are a part of the Yellowstone/Shoshone National Forest ecosystem. All types of animals travel through our property on a regular basis as well as permanent critters that we feed and see everyday.
Prairie dogs are here by the numbers all year round (Pic Above). They tend to stand on the rocks in their areas and watch us work on the ranch or bask in the sun. Most of the guests enjoy taking a ride out to see how many they can spot or chase into their holes. Deer (below) are found here on a migratory basis, during this past spring and summer we have had 2 sets of does and fawns and one buck. They tend to hide in the taller hay grass on our property and can be seen more in the winter in larger numbers daily.
Unfortunately we also get a couple critters that some may regret seeing which is our occasional Skunk who likes to stop by for a visit as they make their rounds from ranch to ranch paying a visit to any unsuspecting critter or person who makes a mistake of meeting them face to face. Our ranch is a bird watchers delight any type, from Killdeer to Owls, Mallard ducks, Magpies, Hawks, Osprey, Golden Eagles, Bald Eagles, Chukars, Pheasant and Ravens to name a few.
We have the occasional badgers, otters in the creek, beavers, elk in the winter, and always the possibilities of wolves, coyotes, and bears. Thats why we recommend when our guests arrive don't leave any food items out on the picnic table or porch area. We dont want to attract anything you don't want to wake up to!
As for regular critters on the ranch we have a few! 30 chickens with 6 different varieties (NO roosters to wake you up early). All named Frita because they are free to lay.
We have 3 Pigs (Pic Below) named Lucy, Ethel and Flow. Which are growing very fast. Which occasionally you will see the entire family chasing around the ranch because they have escaped from their pen.

We have 4 rabbits (Midnight, Pumpkin, Carrot and Rascal) as well as several hundred jack rabbits and cotton tails that frequent the ranch.
As permanent residents on the ranch we have 4 cats (Twix, Snickers, Kit Kat, and our newest addition Clark) they are our mousers and they love attention from anyone that is willing to play with or pet them.
We have cows on the property and rotate them throughout the property, they graze and calves are usually having a ball playing amongst themselves.
And last but not least we have Lily she's our English Bulldog she affection driven so if you make the mistake of petting her she feels that you are her temporary servant and that you must pet her the entire time of your stay. She's a sweetheart but be prepared.
We frequently add critters to the ranch so during your visit you may see a new addition that's not listed above. Whatever the case if you dont see the wildlife that you are looking for we usually can direct you to the best location to find them. See you all soon.
